Greece: Paradise for startups

In the mid-1980s some of our eminent compatriots were worried and expressed their (not so much) inner fears that the Greeks might turn into the waiters of Europe!

The fact that our country has gradually evolved into one of the top tourist destinations does not automatically mean that we have changed into the “waiters” of the world.

On the contrary, it is a practical proof that specialization and investment in all kinds of resources (human, financial, cognitive, etc.) in a sector, are sufficient conditions in order to bring spectacular results!

Low salaries

So, today, for some, the fact that salaries in Greece remain at low levels is a hindrance to the growth of the economy as a whole.

At this point in time, however, for the country, it seems to be an element on which we can count in order to attract investments and specialized personnel to acquire!

The high level of graduates of greek universities

One of the main characteristics of Greek universities is the high level of quality of learning, which results in specific cognitive fields, and despite any pathologies, graduates of greek universities are a pole of attraction for large companies and organizations abroad.

Of course, the same goes for startups that wish to strengthen their human resources.

In this context, it is not an exaggeration to claim that the element in combination with the low salary (overall) cost have created the right conditions for large – and not only – technological organizations to wish to “set up” their own hubs in Greece. Something like “seeds” that are ready to be planted and grown in a completely receptive, as well as highly productive soil.

Of course, this is supported by the improvement of the wider climate in our country, both politically and economically. In this way, the investment schemes no longer take into account the cost of any instability that may arise, as they are convinced that Greece has entered the “rails” of growth, without risking derailment

So, in 10 or 20 years’ time, this corner of the Mediterranean may be the place that will “give birth” to the next technological miracle that in turn will change the world!

The conditions are favorable in all respects, so all that remains is  the potential startups to find the reasonable interest and practical reflection.
