EU plans a €50bn IoT “push”

The European Union is planning to invest more than €50 billion in order to speed up the development of standards for 5G and cybersecurity. EU wants to link national initiatives for digitising industries and increase investment into strategic partnerships.

As described by Commission’s executives, standards bodies will be asked to focus at least on five areas, such as Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity, cloud computing, data technologies and 5G.

Through this initiative, EU is aiming to speed up the standardisation process by co-financing the testing of new technologies through public-private partnerships. Moreover, EU is planning to spend at least 5G.. This, in order to learn about and test new technologies.
