Status AI: Raises $17 Million to Transform Social Media into Interactive Entertainment

The Status AI app functions as a gamified social network. Users initially create their own digital persona and then enter a world that is shaped around them.

The startup Status AI has announced a new funding round of $17 million, confirming the market’s growing interest in platforms that combine artificial intelligence, gaming, and social experiences.

The company was founded by Fai Nur, Amit Bhatnagar, and Pritesh Kadiwala, with the goal of creating a new type of social platform where users aren’t simply restricted to consuming content, but can actually “live” inside digital universes and stories.

The Status AI application operates as a gamified social network. Key features include:

Digital Personas: Users start by creating their own digital identity and then step into a world shaped entirely around them.

Boundless Scenarios: Players can evolve into celebrities with millions of followers, participate in fictional universes, “run” political campaigns, or even go viral within the platform itself.

User-Generated Worlds: The environments are user-generated, with stories, settings, and characters created dynamically through player interactions.

Game Modes: The platform features both single-player and multiplayer functionalities.

Participating in the new funding round were the funds General Catalyst, Union Square Ventures, Y Combinator, Abstract, and LightShed Partners.

Status AI is part of a broader trend of social platforms moving away from generalized content and focusing more heavily on niche communities and immersive fandom experiences.

The company claims to have already seen strong early engagement for what it calls “immersive social entertainment,” recording:

  • Over 13 million generated worlds.
  • More than 5 million character profiles.

The new funds will be used to further develop and scale the platform, matching the rising interest from both everyday users and media and entertainment companies looking for novel ways to interact with their audiences.
