The Truck in Mainline Roadshow, an initiative of Siemens Mobility, as part of the tour in European countries, also visited Greece. More specifically, the properly configured truck of Siemens Mobility made a stop in Athens for three days, where executives of the company presented to about 40 executives of its customers the possibilities and advantages offered by digital technologies to railway systems.During the Roadshow’s stay in the city, Siemens Mobility’s integrated portfolio for the digitization of railway systems was presented, with solutions that could shape the future of railway stations in Greece.
“Siemens Mobility is a market leader in automated public transport solutions and a pioneer in the implementation of these solutions in the main traffic.Solutions for the digitization of rail systems can improve the availability, accuracy and efficiency of the rail system, contributing to an enhanced experience for end-users, in this case, passengers. I hope that the recent Roadshow gave an insight to our customers on how we can co-shape the future of the Greek railway,” said Mr. Dimos Sapidis, CEO of Siemens Mobility S.A.
Maximizing efficiency and saving maintenance costs
Siemens Mobility utilizes the ETCS Hybrid Level 3 solution, using ETCS Level 2 hardware, to offer its customers flexibility and benefits based on their specific needs. By introducing virtual block sections within the Radio Block Center (RBC), trains can get closer to one after another, which allows more passengers to board one line.On a second level, this solution helps to reduce the external equipment required on the line, contributing to reduced maintenance costs. In addition, Siemens Mobility Customer Services presented its portfolio of maintenance services, with the aim of making the systems under management available up to 100%.As revealed, the end-to-end digitization of the spare parts supply chain through MoBase, as well as the Railigent application suite that will act as an open ecosystem for digital applications in the field of rail maintenance, contributes to the reduction of maintenance costs by 10-15%, while at the same time the total downtime of railway systems can be reduced by 30-50%.
Building Information Modeling & Vehicle Information Modeling: Digital solutions for rail systems
Building Information Modeling (BIM), originally used in the construction industry, is a cutting-edge methodology for complete virtual design. Siemens creates three-dimensional models of entire paths, interconnected buildings and control rooms that can be used for simulations, tests and training. The data can be accessible to all interested parties, while the BIM method lays the foundations for effective data-driven repair and maintenance. Vehicle Information Modeling is a three-dimensional laser scanning technology for digital vehicle engineering. Siemens creates three-dimensional imaging of a scalable system for integration into a real vehicle environment. Thanks to the integration scenarios in the system, it becomes possible to attach virtual elements to the real vehicle. As in the case of the BIM method, the data can be used unifyingly for efficient engineering activities and integrated track/vehicle simulations.
The Future of Interlockings – Trackguard Westrace
For more than 20 years, Westrace has grown in more than 20 countries in mainline, high-speed, public transport and commercial transport networks, and has been steadily engaged in the rail sector of the future through digitization and cloud technologies.
The Westrace interlocking system has some special features that make it special in relation to the competition. More specifically, it offers high standards of security and cybersecurity, flexibility (from simple facilities to full-scale developments) while adapting customer requirements in terms of redundancy, availability or interoperability, while being in line with the European Eulynx initiative’s standards for signalling systems. Finally, it can also work with off-the-shelf (COTS) commercial hardware
