Pinterest acquired the Cypriot video app Vochi

Pinterest has closed a deal to acquire the video creation and editing app Vochi. Its goal is to give creators more tools to develop quality content. Pinterest was founded in Silicon Valley in 2009 by current CEO Ben Silbermann, Evan Sharp and Paul Sciarra.

The acquisition is part of Pinterest’s commitment to help creators develop content by inspiring its users to watch, build, and shop based on creators’ ideas.

The plans are to create a place where Pinners can move from inspiration to realization by making more tools available for content creators such as eliminating an object from the video or putting in a 3D background, smart-effects and experiencing a computer vision feel.

Bin Liu, head of creator engineering at Pinterest, said that with this partnership, the more than 400 million Pinterest users worldwide will have a choice from a large library of quality content, since they will have access to a wider set of video creation tools.

The Vochi app enables creators to apply high-quality effects based on computer optics that are directly applied during the video, based on what Ilya Lesun, CEO and co-founder of Vochi, said. These are unique technologies that will soon become available to an even larger audience on Pinterest.

Vochi was founded in 2019 in Cyprus by Lesun, Anna Buglakova, Vasily Kasnitsky and Sergey Malyutin and offers real-time photography and editing tools that aim to be easy to use for more creation and inspiration. For the time being though, the Vochi app will continue to operate as an autonomous app. though.
