Oracle and Vodafone are paving the way for the transition to the Cloud.
The technology and communications company announced its strategic partnership to modernize its European IT infrastructure and accelerate the transition to the cloud.
As part of the multi-year deal, Vodafone will modernize and move a large number of its systems to the OCI Dedicated Region, a fully managed cloud area that brings all Oracle Cloud services to Vodafone’s own network and data centers. This will ensure a dedicated cloud platform to enable Vodafone to modernize its thousands of Oracle databases, as well as to support and expand its critical operations support systems (OSS) and enterprise support systems (BSS), which include CRM and Order Management.
The implementation will allow Vodafone to create new cloud-based applications faster and, taking advantage of its wide geographical coverage, to make them available simultaneously in multiple markets.
Oracle will implement the OCI Dedicated Regions solution in Vodafone’s main data centers that manage IT and network operations in Europe.
The implementation of Oracle cloud services within Vodafone’s own network and data centers will give the company the flexibility to modernize, manage and automate critical systems using new technologies, such as standalone services, as well as to more easily meet the responsiveness and performance requirements of these applications.
Vodafone will also have direct access to computing resources that allow it to dynamically increase and expand services across multiple geographies depending on changing business requirements, while at the same time reducing operating costs and complying with the regulations on the geographical location of data storage.
The partnership supports Vodafone’s multi-year initiative to integrate and modernize the technological infrastructure that supports its critical systems and their transition to an on-premises platform based on open standards and has the capacity to support and expand next-generation digital services. It will also help Vodafone with its Tech 2025 targets: reducing the time to market for its services, providing distinct customer experiences through seamless services, as well as reducing operating costs thanks to automation.
“The flexibility provided by the OCI allows us to build a robust, secure, and scalable cloud platform within our own data centers, while providing the operational flexibility and scalability needed to support the growth and diversification of our business.”, said Scott Petty, Chief Digital & IT Officer, Vodafone.
“Telecom companies are redesigning their business models to innovate and seize new opportunities quickly and at scale. Vodafone is at the forefront of this way of thinking and we are excited to be able to bring the power of OCI to Vodafone’s data centers to support the company, partners in realizing this vision and providing a new generation of connected services.”, pointed out Clay Magouyrk, Executive Vice President, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
