Kpler, the commodities data firm, acquired the Greek MarineTraffic. In particular, Kpler closed a double deal, as together with MarineTraffic it also acquired the German FleetMon, which MarineTraffic had acquired in an earlier time. Both companies specialize in ship tracking and shipping analytics.
The profile of the two companies
MarineTraffic, which is headquartered in Athens, is an integral part of the shipping industry, as it provides widely accessible information and ship tracking analytics.
Rostock-based FleetMon, on the other hand, provides AIS data to market-leading companies, including industries throughout the supply chain.
The acquisition of the two companies will allow Kpler to unlock more value for the shipping sector and increase the quality of the products, data and services it provides to its customers, as noted in the relevant announcement.
“Since its inception, Kpler has focused on tracking cargoes not vessels. We believe it’s time to marry commodities and maritime intelligence into a single platform. This will lead to improvements in the data and services we provide and lead to further innovation in the maritime sector, incorporating the excellent work of both MarineTraffic and FleetMon,” said François Cazor, CEO, Kpler.
“I’m very proud of what MarineTraffic has achieved over the years and I’m really excited about what we can achieve further as part of Kpler, together with the FleetMon team. I am confident that the integration of our products and our organizational culture will take us to new frontiers, ultimately to the benefit of our customers and our community. The increasingly connected shipping world needs more digital tools and better analytics and we will continue to innovate in this direction”, underlined Dimitris Memos, CEO, MarineTraffic.
“Creating transparency for the shipping world has driven our work for more than a decade. By combining experience and excellence the Kpler, MarineTraffic and FleetMon teams will advance the journey of digitization for maritime transport and supply chains. Let’s stay active, and connected, noted Lars Brandstäter, CEO, FleetMon.
