Eurolife FFH, AUEB and HOPEgenesis are planning an “Observatory on Low Birth Rate”

Eurolife FFH is proceeding with a new research on the phenomenon of low birth rates in Greece, this time in collaboration with the Marketing Laboratory of the Department of Marketing and Communication of the Athens University of Economics and Business and HOPEgenesis. The aim of this research is to identify and record trends and behaviors of the Greek family regarding the possibility of having one or more children, while analyzing the problem on multiple levels.

The methodology of the research will be based on the observation of quantitative and qualitative indicators, through the conduct of personal interviews, focus group and telephone interviews using a structured questionnaire. The purpose of qualitative methodology is to explore the views and attitudes of different audiences directly related to the subject to be researched, while quantitative recording is to collect data for a more complete understanding of the phenomenon of low birth rates.

The “Observatory on Low Birth Rate“, a survey that will be repeated on an annual basis, will record the decisions that play a crucial role in the choice of a person or couple to bring one or more children into the world, the factors that influence this decision, their perception of state benefits to new mothers, the way in which professional development is affected after having a child and the conditions that they consider essential their understanding of state benefits for new mothers, the way in which professional development after having a child is affected and the conditions that they consider essential in order to make the decision to become parents more easily.

The research for 2022, under the scientific director Kostis Intounas, Professor of Marketing at the Department of Marketing and Communication of the Athens University of Economics and Business, is in progress and will be completed soon, while its results are expected to be announced in Q2 2022. The “Observatory on Low Birth Rate” will involve people aged 35-45, with or without a child, residents of large urban centers, but also of remote areas, in order to study and record different needs and behaviors from all over the country. At the same time, doctors, mayors, psychologists, carers and beneficiaries of programs on low birth rate.

Eurolife FFH has been working with HOPEgenesis since 2019 to support the Greek family and address the low birth rate. In this context, in May 2021 it announced the expansion of their cooperation until 2023 and adopted a total of ten remote areas of the country: Patmos, Agrafa, Kastellorizo, Lipsi, Ano Koufonisi, Tilos, Anafi, Nisyros, Halki and Kasos. So far, since the beginning of the program, 72 children have been born and another 25 are expected in the near future. At the same time, the company is committed to creating a kindergarten in each one of the above areas. The first two stations have already been delivered, in Patmos and Agrafa, while work has begun for the remaining eight.
