The European Union agreed to a series of new rules with which it obliges businesses to strengthen defenses and forcing companies to report cybersecurity attacks. Under the new legislation, the 28 EU countries will have to share more intelligence and require search engines, online cloud services and Internet retail sites, to ensure infrastructure is secure. The law would comprise the “first ever EU-wide cybersecurity rules”. As Andreas Schwab, the lead lawmaker on the draft legislation stated: “Critical operators in industries including energy, transport, health and banking will have to fulfill security measures and notify significant cyber incidents”.
