Beyond Hackathon: the fundamentals of Greek FinTech services

A year ago the first FinTech Hackathon “Beyond Hackathon” was organized by Eurobank’ s R&D center in cooperation with Found.ation and The Cube and 17 teams participated in the contest. In this years’ contest participated 38 teams and more than 120 participants, proving that Greek Startup & Fin Tech sector has made huge progress and keeps on improving.

In this years’ contest many innovative presentations were made and many of them proved to be ready business plans! Moreover, 6 teams from Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia participated in the contest and due to many participants the pitching process was longer than 3 hours!

The winning team, which won 5000 euro, was Block17 which created a block chain of interbank clearing transactions and made a great presentation.

The second place and 3000 euro, won a team of Serbian students, Hacker Squad. They created an interface of banking transactions made via vocal directives through Amazon Alexa.

Wire Buzz won the third place and the price of 2000 euro. They created a trade support mechanism, used in e commerce, which provides notices to consumers.

A special award was given to a high school team, Evolve, which created a simple payment system used in all kinds of e-wallets by applying all different ways of e-payment. Worth mentioning, that Evolve team couldn’t participate in the contest as they did not fulfill all the requirements.

Moreover all teams that distinguished in the contest will participate in the Egg incubator program so as to get a chance to turn their ideas to business plans.

Kill3ds: which replaces complicated certification systems used in e-commerce with Google Authenticator

Medler: which makes online drug prescription easier

Digital Eurobank

Eurobanks’ support at these events proves the banks’ commitment at becoming the biggest digital bank in Greece. At the closing ceremony Sotiris Sirmakezis CEO and Group Chief Digital & Technology Officer made a clear statement promoting these initiatives and declaring the organization of the 3rd Beyond Hackathon.
